Embassy Stockholm COVID-19 Update #23: Denmark Border Restrictions
Update; Voting Abroad and Embassy Drop Off Option
8 MINUTE READ
July 17, 2020

1)  U.S. citizens in Sweden wishing to travel to Copenhagen for consular services please take note!  Effective July 11, the Danish government issued updated border entry guidance and announced that the border region of Skane in Sweden is now considered an “open” region for the purposes of travel to Denmark.  U.S. citizen applicants residing in an open region within Sweden can schedule a passport appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen.  The U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen is not accepting CRBA appointments from U.S. citizens resident in Sweden at this time. CRBA appointments will need to be scheduled with the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm.  U.S. citizens in Sweden who require emergency consular services should contact the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm.

2)  To vote in the November 2020 elections, all overseas U.S. citizens need to have completed a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) in 2020. Whether you are a first-time voter or have already received ballots and voted absentee in past elections, you must complete an FPCA each year to participate in elections as an overseas absentee voter. Voters should review previous updates on overseas voting, the impact of COVID-19 on elections, and other frequently asked questions. For more information, please also visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website.

3)  Most states allow overseas voters to submit voting materials via email or fax.  If your state requires you to return paper voting forms or ballots to local election officials, you can use international mail, a courier service such as FedEx or DHL, or you may drop off properly packaged and completed voting materials at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm.  For the fastest service, use the Swedish Postal System; it can take six weeks or more for mail to reach its destination if sent by an embassy or consulate via diplomatic pouch.  If returning a ballot to the U.S. Embassy, please be sure to place your voting materials in a postage-paid return envelope (available on the FVAP website) or in an envelope bearing sufficient domestic U.S. postage, and address it to the relevant local election officials.  Overseas voters may drop off voting materials at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm, Monday-Friday (not on holidays) between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
