Embassy Stockholm COVID-19 Update #28: Negative COVID-19 test required for some travelers
3 MINUTE READ
February 5, 2021

1.) Requirement of negative COVID-19 test result for incoming travelers. From Saturday, February 6, travelers over the age of 18 who are exempted from Swedish entry restrictions must present a negative COVID-19 test result (taken within the previous 48 hours) before they are allowed to enter Sweden. This requirement does not apply to Swedish citizens or residents. The Swedish Public Health Agency also recommends that everyone – including Swedish citizens and residents – who has traveled abroad to countries with new variants of the coronavirus stay at home for seven days and get tested on day five after entry. This recommendation is in addition to any pre-travel test citizens or residents may have had. The test requirement applies until March 31 and may be extended. See the Swedish Government website for the official press release (in English.)

2.) Sweden has temporarily banned all non-Swedish citizens from entering Sweden via Denmark, Norway, and the United Kingdom. A stricter entry ban is in effect from Denmark, Norway, and the UK, with a few exemptions. This means that foreigners who are not covered by an exemption will not be allowed to enter Sweden. If you are exempted from the entry ban, you should use border entry points indicated on the Swedish Police’s website to enter Sweden from these countries. The entry ban from Denmark, Norway and the UK was updated February 1, 2021 and is in effect until February 14, with the possibility of extension. All the exemptions to the stricter entry ban are described on the Swedish Police’s website.
