Extension of Validity for National Interest Exceptions

Effective June 29, 2021, the validity of National Interest Exceptions has been extended from single entry, 30-day validity, to multiple entry, 12-month validity. Unless otherwise indicated, existing NIEs will be valid for 12 months from the date of approval and for multiple entries, as long as they are used for the purpose under which they were granted. Entry into the United States remains subject to a determination by Customs and Border Protection officers at ports of entry.  Travelers must follow the Centers for Disease Control guidance regarding proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test or evidence of recovery from the virus prior to entry and are to comply with other applicable CDC guidelines concerning international travel, including recommended periods of self-quarantine or self-isolation after entry into the United States.
