Message for U.S. Citizens: Embassy Stockholm COVID-19 Update #9: Air Travel Update, CDC guidance on masks
Air Travel Update, CDC guidance on masks

April 14, 2020

1)  United Airlines has informed the Embassy that its seasonal flights between Stockholm and Newark have been canceled for the 2020 season (May-Sept).  Other commercial flight options to the United States remain available from Stockholm via Frankfurt and Amsterdam.

In recent weeks, commercial airlines have significantly reduced flight schedules and countries have closed airports and borders with little advance notice.  If you wish to return to the United States, you should make arrangements to do so now.  There is no guarantee that the Department of State will be able to continue to provide repatriation assistance and transportation options to the United States may be unavailable in the future.  If you choose to remain overseas, you should be prepared to remain where you are for the foreseeable future.

2)  The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.  The CDC also advises the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.  Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.
