Message for U.S. Citizens: Check Passport Expiration Dates Now
3 MINUTE READ
May 4, 2023

Are you a U.S. citizen overseas planning travel?  If so, we encourage you to check the expiration of your passport now!  This is especially important as we approach what is expected to be a busy summer travel season.  Did you know that passports are printed in the United States?  The unprecedented demand for passports in the United States impacts our processing times abroad, too.  We urge all citizens not to make definitive travel plans until you have received your new passport.

We are committed to providing the best possible customer service to passport applicants.  Follow the steps on our website to determine if you can mail in your application for processing.  This frees up your time and reserves our in-person passport appointments for those who cannot benefit from online processing, such as children and first-time adult applicants.  Processing times are the same whether you mail in your application or appear in person, so please renew by mail if eligible.

If you don’t have travel planned this summer and need to renew your passport this year, please consider helping us manage our summer workload by applying in the fall.
