U.S. Secretary of State Tillerson’s remarks on the 2016 International Religious Freedom Report

“From the beginning, America has been a place that has cherished the freedom of worship. Sadly, many around the globe do not enjoy this freedom… [W]e pray for the strength and wisdom to achieve a better tomorrow – one where good people of all faiths, Christians and Muslims and Jewish and Hindu, can follow their hearts and worship according to their conscience.”
— President Donald J. Trump

On Tuesday, 15 August 2017, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson delivered remarks on the release of the 2016 International Religious Freedom report. He focused on the causal links between religious persecution and instability, human rights abuses, and violent extremism, and the Administration’s commitment to tackling the latter by addressing the former. Secretary Tillerson directly referenced religious persecution in Turkey during his remarks.

The International Religious Freedom Report 2016 is available on State.gov and allows access to all separate sections as well as the creation of a custom report.
